Esse Quam trains technicians in Solar PV Management
A one-day Solar Photovoltaic (Solar PV) Systems Management Training was organised to equip technicians and installers with practical knowledge in selecting, installing, and managing appropriate solar equipment. The training forms part of Esse Quam’s Sustainable Environment programme, which promotes renewable energy adoption and climate-conscious development.

Held on 22 July 2022 at the Esse Quam facility, the training brought together five participants (four male, one female). The session focused on the installation and management of Grid-tied, Off-grid, and Hybrid PV systems, combining theory with practical application.
Key learning areas included:
- PV installation methodologies
- Battery types and configurations
- Battery bank design and connection methods
- Battery life cycles and maintenance
- Selecting appropriate batteries for specific climatic conditions
- Conducting energy audits and project estimation
- System testing and implementation
Participants were provided with the necessary tools and equipment to gain hands-on experience throughout the training. The practical approach ensured that attendees not only understood system design principles but also developed confidence in real-world installation and troubleshooting.
The programme was delivered under the Esse Quam Skills Development module in collaboration with GT Energy. Support for equipment and logistics was provided by SD Logistics and Solarsupermarket.
At the conclusion of the training, participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their successful completion and to strengthen their capacity to promote solar energy solutions within their communities.

The session was facilitated by a coordinator, Mr. Stephen Akande, an experienced industry practitioner with technical expertise in Solar PV systems and prior certification from the Ghana Energy Commission at the DENG Solar Training Center. He encouraged participants to actively advocate for renewable energy adoption across Africa, emphasizing the abundance and accessibility of solar resources.
He further highlighted the importance of integrating solar systems into residential and commercial properties to complement national grid supply, reduce energy costs, and ease pressure on existing infrastructure.
